Having very oily acne prone skin, I was always terrified of the ide off added more oils to my skin, thinking it would cause me to break out like mad. This was until I began working a lot with skincare, and learnt the ins and outs of how it all actually works. If the thought of putting oil on your face scares you, take a deep breath! Putting a thin layer of coconut and lavender oil on your skin won’t make it oilier — there are beneficial oils that may actually help to soothe and control your skin’s sebum production…and these are my favourites. I buy my oils from a brand called Arbonne, who I live because all of there products are vegan and feel like they have an added luxury to them. Tea Tree Oil
I love tea tree oil, and it’s something that I use everyday in my skincare routine. One of the most common uses for tea tree oil today is in skin care products, as it’s considered one of the most effective home remedies for acne. You can make a homemade gentle tea tree oil acne face mask by mixing five drops of pure tea tree essential oil with two teaspoons of raw honey. Simply rub on your face, leave on for one minute, then rinse off. Topically, You should always dilute tea tree oil with a carrier oil like coconut oil in a 1:1 ratio before applying it directly to skin. Similarly to tea tree, coconut oil also has its own long list of benefits for skin and immunity, so these two together make an even better combination. You can use this combo as a night time moisturiser. In my case, I blend Tea tree with Coconut oil, Jojoba oil, Hemp seed oil and Rose Oil for a great, acne friendly over night moisturiser.

Peppermint Oil
This is what I love about peppermint oil: You can literally use it everywhere!Ive found that peppermint works amazing at diminishing the redness and swelling of sensitive spots. Try using equal parts vitamin E and jojoba oil , and add a few drops of peppermint oil, or substitute tea tree oil for peppermint oil in my previous mix. This is a great substitute for anyone that has a low tolerance to tea tree oil. Apply your treatment directly onto your blemish before bed until you see that sucker vanish! The additional benefit to using peppermint oil over tea tree is most definitely the scent but also I find it less drying when I want to treat an entire section of my face that’s prone to breakouts.

Lavender Oil
One of the wonderful benefits of lavender essential oil is its antibacterial activity. Because lavender oil can penetrate pores to kill bacteria, it may go far in preventing and healing breakouts. You can apply lavender oil diluted in coconut oil to your skin after you wash your face just like peppermint and tea tree oil. Like Peppermint, it’s no where near as drying as Tea Tree Oil. This will not only moisturize, but also help to reduce breakouts.

Lemon Oil
emon essential oil has astringent properties that reduce excess sebum on the skin by shrinking large pores! This means that Lemon essential oil is one of the most powerful anti-acne essential oils. It contains powerful ingredients like antioxidants, vitamin C, citric acid, etc, which fight off acne causing germs and boost collagen production, thereby reducing scarrings. If you want to try lemon in your moisturising routine, make sure that you dilute it with another oil as like tea tree it can be quite strong!
